ICELAND

2018, canvas / oil, 130 x 95 cm

While visiting Iceland, the second largest island in Europe, a number of new ideas and concepts were born, inspiring Kristaps Priede to try the landscape genre, which is outside his usual scope. The artist has highlighted the unpretentious beauty of nature and its majestic strength, emphasizing the forces of sky, water and land. Iceland is like another world, so fascinating and unusual. Icelanders' life depends on Island's resources - the nature, and they live in harmony with it. This island is a sacred place where time stops its flow. It is a place where a man can unfold his mind and see himself as a part of the nature.

K.Priede has painted vistas of the Blue Lagoon, the Great Geyser, Glacier Lagoon, the black sand beaches of Vic and piles of lava stones.

The artist has dedicated this exhibition to Latvia's 100th anniversary, and Iceland was the first country to officially recognise the restoration of independence of Latvia and other Baltic States in August 22, 1991.
